Titans Netball Club - 'Simply The Best'
Match Report - Team Lightning 02.12.18
Team Lightning travelled to Bristol to take on Premier Romans. Composure and teamwork sums up today's match. Lightning took to the court and the pace was intense from the onset. The 1st quarter was goal for goal, and sisters Jo (WD) & Beth (C) Nancekivell worked hard to keep possession through the centre court. Both teams were vocal and play was slick. The intense quarter finished with Premier Romans ahead by one goal (10-11). Michelle Sampson (Captain) made some changes and the team were fired going into the 2nd quarter. Emily Risdon (GS) and Grace Wilton (GA) were a duo not to be messed with and the goals were going in one after the other. Amber Manley (GK) and Poppy Sampson (GD) in defence were not phased by the physical play in the circle and capitalised on opportunities given. The quarter ended with Titans ahead by 10 goals (25-15). Determined to keep the lead, Titans went out strong in the 3rd quarter, but, historically, the 3rd quarter always stumps the team and the quarter was lost through errors and lack of momentum. Titans were only marginally ahead by the end of the quarter (35-30). Only five goals ahead, Titans knew they had to play hard and keep composed in the final quarter. Beth (GD) and Michelle (WD) defended well up the court which visibly rattled Premier Romans. Clare Wilmott (C) and Becka Manley (WA) in attack drove the ball safely up court to the shooters. Although well contested, Titans were controlled and forced errors from Premier Romans. Discipline in their defence became lapse and the coach attempted to make a difference with changes on court. However, too late and Titans were able to storm ahead to a ten goal margin to take the win 50-40. Player of the match went to Emily Risdon for her superb play and shooting.
