Another thriller of a match in Chulmleigh, where Team Lightning took on Bristol side Almondsbury. Lightning took a quick lead as they took advantage of the errors the opposition made in missing their initial attempts on goal. As the quarter progressed, Almondsbury shooters were sinking the goals and the margin was narrowed. Beth Nancekivell (playing Centre and Player of the Match) broke down the space for centre court players to take the ball and errors were forced. Quarter 1 and it was 13-10 to Lightning. A formidable team in defence, Poppy Sampson, Michelle Sampson and Jo Nancekivell made it incredibly difficult for the opposition to get the ball into their shooters. Lightning looked in control throughout the 2nd quarter. Although minor errors were made, Lightning capitalised on opportunities and Rebecca Manley's (WA) feeds were accurate and direct into Emily Risdon (GS) and Grace Wilton (GA). Q2 and it was 30-24 to Lightning.Entering the 2nd half, Almondsbury made changes to their team in their effort to narrow the gap, which ultimately impacted on their momentum. In true style, Lightning took advantage by keeping their momentum and further increased their lead. Q3 42- 34 to Lightning.Confidence in their team mates was evident in the final quarter and meant the team kept position on the fourth and final quarter, dominating the court from the onset. ​Team Thunder had a great win over Jupiter in Bridgwater today. They took a little while to get going and were two goals down after the first quarter. It wasn't noticeable to the players on court, but Lorraine Cleverdon Brend only put-up one shot, but there wasn't any need for more though, as Louise Lathwell was being contacted and scored 11 out of 14 attempts. It had been goal for goal until the last couple of minutes. At quarter time, Katrina Venner moved into GA, Lucy Burnett to Centre and Cara Copsey came on as GD. The number of errors increased, but so did the interceptions and tips.  Thunder made this quarter their own, winning it by 11 and therefore going in at half time 30-21 upbeat. Nicole Lathwell fed the shooters superbly giving them plenty of opportunity to net some goals. Katrina Venner surprised the bench and herself, by taking shots from wherever she was (barely in the circle most of the time), rather than passing it to get close, but thankfully Lathers had her eye in! This cushion allowed the team to make more changes for the final two quarters. Cara Copsey went to Centre, Katrina Venner back to GD and Lorraine Cleverdon Brend back to GA for the third quarter. There was still ten unforced errors but the defensive pressure from everyone remained high. Rowan Fitzsimmons and Katrina Venner worked together to hunt in the centre third and Kiara Clarke changed her play to rotate more in the goal circle. Thunder only won Q3 by 3 but they had the confidence with a 12 goal buffer. In the final quarter Cara Copsey moved back to WD and Lucy Burnett to Centre. Both forced mistakes and won many interceptions. Cleverdon Brend and Lathers moves and shot brilliantly to extend the lead to 21 and Kiara Clarke coped well with the new shooter. Thunder won 62-41. 28th September 2018 - Titans U14's travelled to Paignton to take part in the South West Regional Tournament. It was a great experience for the girls, and they started their campaign off against Exeter. Titans started well and managed to stay with their opponents for half the game, but unfortunately our shooters could not fine their shooting range, and even though we had plenty more possession, the final scoreline didn't go in our favour, and we lost 11-7. We dusted off the lost, and faced Lovell Gladiators in our next game. We dominated the game from the off set, taking a fine win 18-10. Even our superb defender of Daisy Harrison, took to the shooting circle to find the net with ease.  As we took runners up spot in our group, we then faced the tournament favourites of Lovell Warriors in the Semi Finals. We started brightly with 2 goals without reply, and this certainly shook our opponents, but they came out all guns blazing for the remainder of the match, and took the win 15-8.  Going into our final game, we had nothing to lose to decide 3rd/4th placings. We were up against the much taller outfit of West Exe Pumas, and we certainly didn't disappoint. We had saved the best performance until last!  Working well as a complete unit, we started the first quarter with 3 goals without reply. Everyone was working extremely hard, and interceptions and goals were readily taken.  Lucie Davey in as Goal Keeper took every tip and interception that was going, and led her team to victory down the court, for our shooters to finally be able to sink the net with ease. At half time the score line was 8-1 in our favour. We continued to shine on the court, and saw the match out with a fine victory of 14-4 to take the 3rd spot.  Well done to Lucie Davey for taking the Player of the Tournament accolade, closely followed by Daisy Harrison & Kitty Sampson behind her. Team Line Up:   Ellie Heard, Daisy Harrison, Lily Lark, Lillie Sealey, Lucie Davey, Kitty Sampson, Eleanor Roome, Eden Cornish & Megan Burnell.

24th Sept 2018.   Team Lightning take a convincing win over local rivals Carol Anne Diamonds in the North Devon Senior League, 49-36.  A shaky start for Lightning, with Diamonds taking an initial 4 goal lead, but patience from Lightning enabled them to claw themselves back into the game, and take a 2 goal lead after the first 15 minutes of play.  Ruth Chamings and Amber Manley worked well together as a defensive unit in the goal circle, and with the back up of Paula Young at WD, they hassled Diamonds to win over possession. At half time, the lead was extended to Lightning by 8 goals. Cara Copsey kept composure at WA to enable great feeds into the shooting circle for Grace Wilton & Emily Risdon to find the net. Titans never looked back, and continued to strive forward with good composure down the court, lead by Rebecca Manley in as centre. Player of the match went to Emily Risdon. A great result, with fine team work throughout. 

Sept 2018 - A special mention to our dedicated Umpire Nadine Sampson, who regularly umpires for Titans in the North Devon Netball Senior League.  Having not played netball for many a year, Nadine can be always seen on the court, blowing her whistle, and a great role model for Titans Netball Club. Nadine is a qualified 'B' Award umpire.  We thank Nadine for her continued support to Titans.

​Sunday 23rd Sept 2018 - Team Thunder faced Cornwall Storm in their first South West Regional Division Three match of the season.  Storm started strongly and took a six goal lead, but Thunder fought back with great shooting from Louise Lathwell and good defensive rebounds from Kiara Clarke, to enter the first quarter bread 13-15 down. The line up remained the same for the 2nd quarter and Katrina Venner and Lathwell were definitely felling the force of the Storm, but patient play kept them in it. The score at half time was 24-27 down.Lorraine Cleverdon-Brend arrived and took her place in the shooting circle, whilst Katrina Venner went back to join Paula Young in defence. The opponents play was disrupted into the circle, but unfortunately Lathwell lost her shooting range, only netting one goal that quarter, preventing Thunder from capitalising. Lucy Burnett and Nicole Lathwell worked the ball continuously and so only lost that quarter by 2 goals, coming in 30-35 down. In the final quarter Storm pulled ahead. Abbie Plucknett was steady in attack and Paula Young was on fire, but Thunder couldn't quite keep possession, or penetrate their defence and lost that quarter by 7 goals, to lose the match 49-37.Player of the match plaudits went to Rowan Fitzsimmons by the opponents. They were so impressed with Rowan's improvement from when they faced her last season. Titans nominated Lucy Burnett as their Player of the Match. Sunday 23rd Sept 2018  - Team Lightning started their campaign back in Division One of the South West Regional League with a fine win over Galmington.Lightning took to the court for the first match of the season in Plymouth, against Taunton side Galmington. Following a good warm up, the team went on strong with quick passing from centre court into the circle. However, a few errors meant Galmington took on the initial lead of 3 goals within the first few minutes. This was enough to wake the Lightning squad up and quick passing and interceptions from both Jo Nancekivell and Amber Manley, meant Beth Nancekivell(GA) and Emily Risdon(GS) could put away the goals. Lightning quickly took the lead.Q1 - 12 - 9 (up)In the 2nd quarter, Lightning played strong and utilised the skills rehearsed at training earlier in the week, focussing on 'Phase Zero', and forcing the quick Galmington players to make errors. Lightning maximised on the errors made and continued their lead, with Grace Wilton and Beth Nancekivell shooting accurately. Poppy Sampson(GD) and Amber(GK) forced Galmington players to pass the ball around and continued to make it difficult for the Galmington shooters to score. Unfortunately, injury took Clare Wilmott off the court and Rebecca Manley took on the centre bib. Following the injury, further determination by the players was evident and they took another win in the 2nd quarter.Q2 - 25-20 (up)Michelle Sampson at WA was a new set up for Lightning squad in the third quarter. Her accurate passing and feeds meant Galmington players were having to work hard for the interceptions. The match was tight and errors were made by both teams, but Lightning kept their lead.Q3 - 35-29 (up)With only 6 goals between the teams, all was to play for in the final quarter.  Galmington came onto court fighting. Their slick passing and accurate shooting narrowed the score line. With only two or three goals between the teams towards the end of the quarter, it was neck and neck.
