Team Lightning pulled out an excellent performance against Hucclecote, pushing them to the wire, to lose on the final whistle by a small margin of 3 goals, 43-46.Hucclecote started strongly, but Lightning plugged away to bring back their opponents early lead, to settle into their rhythm. Everyone was working hard as a team unit. Beth Nancekivell and Amber Manley were working tirelessly in defence to stop the ball into Hucclecote's shooters. They both linked up well with the centre court of Jo Nancekivell (WD) and Rebecca Manley (C). Emily Risdon and Grace Wilton started to settle into their shooting form, in which was extremely difficult with their dominant defenders. Coming in from the first quarter, the margin was 4 goals, with Hucclecote leading 14-10. Hucclecote applied the pressure for the 2nd quarter.  Their goalkeeper had timed her jump, for the perfect tip to interception from our shooters, and this put immense pressure on Emily & Grace to find the net.  At half time, Hucclecote had extended their lead to 8 goals. Changes were made to Lightning, to try and change the dynamics on court.  Amber sustained a knock to her eye, so made way for Poppy Sampson to move into GK.  Captain Michelle Sampson came onto the court as WD and Rebecca and Clare Wilmott switched positions.  This had an immediate positive effect to Lightning. Emily was shooting with ease for the 3rd quarter, as she had room to move out of the goal circle. Clare & Rebecca were providing accurate feeds into the shooting circle, and the confidence grew. The excitement was rising from the players and spectators, and we had a game on our hands.  The composure of Hucclecote started to dip, and the discipline on court was evident to see. They were rattled, and Lightning capitalised on their frustrations. Coming in from the 3rd quarter, we were now only trailing by 2 goals, 35-33. We had won the 3rd quarter by 8 goals! Lightning had to keep their line up the same, as we needed to keep the momentum. Hucclecote came out hard for the final quarter.  They applied immense pressure coming down the court, and the errors started to creep into our game within the final attacking third. Their defence were working hard, and they applied pressure on our shooters to sink the net. They started with a 6 goal lead, but Lightning were good at clawing their way back, and this is exactly what they did. Poppy Sampson was gaining tips and interceptions in the defence circle, and she linked up well with Beth & Michelle, to work down the court.  Lightning were unfortunate not to come away with a well deserved win, as we had the opportunities in the final 5 minutes, but just couldn't sink the ball into the net.  The final whistle came upon us, with a narrow defeat of 43-46. November 2018 - Great success for two of our Titans Coaches.  Claire Turner & Michelle Sampson gain their Level 2 Coaching Award. With hard work and dedication, both spent 5 long days in Somerset, to achieve their Award. Claire & Michelle have been coaching Titans members for many a years, and are invaluable assets to Titans Netball Club. Both can been seen regularly coaching our Senior & Junior Members on a weekly basis. Their enthusiasm and motivation is evident to see, and everyone at Titans are super proud of their success.

11th November 2018.  ROUND 1 - Team Rockets start their South West U14 Regional campaign in Paignton with cracking results. They came up against local rivals Exeter for their first fixture, and matched them goal for goal in the first quarter by only trailing by a single goal 7-6.  Unfortunately they took a knock in the 2nd quarter, and Exeter came out all guns blazing to be leading at half time 16-8. The damage was done, and for the remaining half a game, Titans kept with their opponents, but couldn't claw themselves back into the game and lost 31-17.Next they faced Bath Cougars. A thrilling encounter, in which kept all the spectators all excited and willingly the girls to succeed. They kept a tight scoreline all the way to half time, leading by the single goal 11-10. Great shooting by Lillie Sealey kept them in front, to see them go into the final quarter, winning by 2 goals 18-16. Team Rockets managed to find another gear for the final quarter, and sailed away with a fine victory 27-20.Team Line Up: Lucie Davey, Daisy Harrison, Lily Lark, Kitty Sampson, Ellie Heard, Lillie Sealey, Megan Burnell, Eden Cornish & Eleanor Roome.

Thunder travelled to Bodmin, but unfortunately couldn't bring home the victory. Bodmin were quick off the mark and took a 5 goal lead with great positioning and accuracy by their GS. Thunder came back though to level it, but just before the end of the quarter a few errors crept in to enable Bodmin to regain a 5 goal lead. Cara Copsey joined Ruth Chamings in the defence for the 2nd quarter and they worked superbly together breaking down Bodmin's play and winning rebounds. Bodmin couldn't find the net as easily in Q2 and more movement in the attack meant Thunder narrowed the gap slightly to be 17-21 down at half time.  At the start of the 3rd quarter Louise Lathwell thought it would be sensible to land on both defenders feet when going for her rebound and badly turned her ankle (so the team had to regroup). Initially they worked hard, and many one-twos between Ruth & Kat, and then usual drive to the pocket by Nicole Lathwell took the ball down the court, and the shooting accuracy decreased and Bodmin capitalised to pull away to 35-24 at the break. In the final quarter Katrina Venner couldn't find the net (about2/7) and heads started to drop. Everyone still worked hard and the movement was there, although timing was off at times. Lucy Burnett and Rowan Fitzsimmons kept working hard to break down their play & Lorraine Cleverdon Brend and Katrina worked intelligently to get into good shooting positions. Their shooters barely missed in the second half and punished Thunder to win 50-30. They were a good side but it was definitely a game Thunder could win. Bring on the return visit! Team Lightning travelled to Poole on 11th November where Aquarians would host them at St David English venue. The match started with a two minutes silence to honour soldiers who fought and died in the World Wars. The silence was especially poignant as it was the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1. Quarter 1 was quick and almost goal for goal in the first few minutes. Aquarians were rattled, however their pace and experience soon shone through and they began their lead. Lightning players made safe and secure passes up the court with some superb feeds into GS (Grace Wilton) and GA (Beth Nancekivell). C (Clare Wilmott) and WA (Becka Manley) worked tirelessly in attack. End of the first quarter score was 16-8 to Aquarians. Changes were made in the 2nd quarter and Michelle Sampson (captain) made some needed changes. Millie Wilton made her debut on court and Jo Nancekivell moved into the GD bib. Play was quick and balls were passed with power, and Titans Lightning worked hard to keep possession. Aquarians defence were strong and balls turned over were quickly scored, despite Amber Manley's phenomenal defence as GK (Player of the Match) and Jo Nancekivell's crucial tips. Aquarians were ahead by over half going into the third quarter with the score line standing as 32-14. Although Lightning players didn't feel the score reflected their play, Aquarians continued to increase their lead finishing the third quarter 30 goals ahead with a score line of 50-20.  Titans continued with the momentum they had shown all match in the final quarter and really came into their own. Play was slick and the team helped as they forced some errors from the opposition. Initially, the quarter was goal for goal with both teams becoming increasingly more determined. Lightning's target was to score within half the number of goals, but with fatigue setting in, they failed their goal, and Aquarians lead was too advanced to catch up. Titans Lightning knew the match was going to be tough when they travelled to Exeter. The game started at speed, with Exeter passing quickly and rapidly up the court. Their set play was evident and they maximised on the errors made by Lightning, bringing the score line at the end of the first quarter to 22-9 to Exeter. The scoreline didn't phase Lightning and they made changes to the team in the 2nd quarter. Emily Ridson at GS (Player of the Match) fought tirelessly to get into position and maximised on the few opportunities given, but these were sparse. Exeter GS & GA's shooting were accurate and the team maximised on the errors that Lightning made. The score at the end of the 2nd quarter was 38-18 to Exeter. Beth Nancekivell lived into GA and Grace Wilton to WA for the 3rd quarter, and the team made a number of extra passes to keep possession. Strong defence with Jo Nancekivell at WD, Poppy Sampson at GD and Kiara Clarke at GK meant Exeter attack were pressurised, but their speed of play was immense and they continued to increase their lead, finishing the 3rd quarter at 51-27. Determined to remain within half of the score line, Lightning continued to fight in the last quarter. Clare Wilmott at Centre managed to keep the pace of the centre court, but play was scrappy. Errors were made by both teams. Thunder hosted Sydenham Gems today knowing that last season they narrowly beat them when at home. It felt like the fireworks had come a little early, when two of Titans netballs exploded. One when practising in the warm up, and then the reserve ball in the first quarter. It certainly gave us all a fright.  Gems had the strongest start taking a three goal lead, but Thunder didn't let their heads drop. A few errors and missed shots initially were ironed out, and Louise Lathwell was then on fire with superb long range shots. Rowan Fitzsimmons read the game well, and made great decisions when in attack. It took 10 minutes for Lorraine Cleverdon Brend to need to shoot, but when she did, she was superbly accurate too, and Thunder came in at quarter time 15-9 up. The 2nd quarter was a bit more difficult. Gems WD tipped some great passes from her first stage defence, so Nicole Lathwell had to adjust and reset, and therefore the other attackers had to change their timing. Ruth Chamings and Daisy Totterdell also tipped lots of balls, but they couldn't capitalise, and they only extended their lead by 1 goal to 23-16 at half time.The third quarter was also quite steady with much end to end play. Katrina Venner took to the court, and made an immediate impact, applying pressure in as WD. Lucy Burnett linked well between defence and attack and controlled her feeds in to the circle. Coming in, we were now 33-24 up. In the final quarter, Thunder upped the pace a bit when Gems were failing, and pulled away to a 44-29 win. Nicole Lathwell was voted Player of the Match by both teams.
